Maurine Christen

August 21, 1935 — May 12, 2016

Maurine Egan Christen was born to Howard Hyrum Egan and Vera Taylor on August 21, 1935. She passed away May 12, 2016. She grew up in Orem and Heber Utah and was educated in the Alpine School District. She married Ray Christen on May 23rd 1953. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City temple.

She was the mother to one beautiful daughter who died shortly after birth (Mary Ellen) and five rambunctious boys, Steven Ray (deceased), Ronald Stanley (Provo, UT), Chad LeRoy (St. George, UT), Gregory Jess (Mapleton, UT) and Shannon Kip (St. George, UT). She has sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Her children and family are her pride and joy.

She began a life of service at a young age when she got a job waiting tables at a diner in Orem. Her love of serving others motivated her and Ray to open the Chateau Steak House in Orem where they ran a successful business. She was the hostess, waitress, cook and bookkeeper. Ray was the Chef and the sons cooked, did dishes and were salad boys. The Chateau was closed after she was in a devastating car accident that broke her neck.

Maurine enjoyed sewing and quilting. She made quilts and clothes professionally, for neighbors, for friends and for her family. All of her children and grandchildren are blessed with heirlooms from her handy work.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in numerous church callings. She enjoyed teaching primary to the girls and working with the young women the most.

She is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Vera Egan, Brother Ralph Egan, Sister Joyce Strong, Children Mary Ellen and Steven Ray Christen. She is survived by her husband Ray, sons Ron, Chad, Jess and Kip. Memorial services will be held at the Provo City Cemetery May 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
