Melpha Kane

Beaver Dam, AZ – Melpha Lyman Kane passed away peacefully at the Elderberry Care Center in St. George, Utah. She was the daughter of Wayne Roper and Margaret Easton Lyman, born 29 December 1927 at Mayfield, Utah. Melpha was the first of six children. Soon after birth the family moved to Milford, Utah where she attended Milford schools, graduating from high school in 1946. She started employment with the telephone company as a switch board operator in Milford. Later she took employment in Salt Lake City, first at ZCMI's snack bar, but was soon re-employed by the Telephone Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1950 she was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denver, CO. On November 12, 1954, Melpha married Robert L. Kane in the Idaho Falls Temple. They first lived on a farm at Caldwell, Idaho, milking cows. They later moved to a farm near Nampa, then later to a farm north of Ontario, Oregon. Melpha was always a stay-at-home mom, she did what she loved to do most, homemaking; eventually becoming a mother to seven children, grandmother of 22 and great-grandmother of 4. Loved by her family, she managed close relationships with each through constant sharing of love, along with a firm but gentle persuasion for each to do good. She loved the scriptures and lived close to the Spirit to guide her life. Teaching seminary, Sunday School, Primary, Visiting Teaching, and even Home teaching on many occasions. She served as Relief Society President as well, these are some of her callings in the church. Melpha's example surely influenced the lives of her children, for to her constant joy all family members were church active. In retirement years, she again served missions with her husband in such places as: Los Angeles, Gallup, Athens, Cyrus, Cairo, Melbourne, Auckland, Perth, Augusta, Salt Lake City and etc. Always a great missionary. At the most unexpected moment or place Melpha was sure to strike up a conversation with strangers about Relief Society, or the church. She had many friends and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed Family History and spent many hours in Name Extraction and the Indexing programs. While her family was growing up she managed to attend College for her own interests. Oil painting gave her relaxing moments, leaving valued paintings among her family members and friends. If in heaven Mepha's not seen by family and friends, don't despair. For sure, she's along the way helping those that are lost find their way. Indeed, an elect lady, Melpha kept her second estate and qualifies for the "Mothers Hall Of Fame." Melpha is preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She is survived by her husband, seven children, 22 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, four sisters and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Graveside services and burial in Littlefield Arizona Cemetery. Incidental viewing only, none scheduled.
