Michael Lawson

April 23, 1952 — January 4, 2019

Washington, Utah

Michael “Mike” Joseph Lawson, 66, died Friday, January 2019, at his home in St George, UT surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia DeAnn Lawson; children Elaine (Greg), Michael John (Paul), Jesse (Amber), Ryan (Chelsie), and Meagan (Jeremy); eleven grandchildren; a large extended family,  and many close friends.

Born in Canton, Georgia, April 1952, his family moved to the Tampa, Florida area when he was 7 years old. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1970 and Pensacola Junior College with an Associates degree in 1972.  Mike made his way out west to California in 1975  where he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and met and married the love of his life, Cindy and they eventually settled in Utah.

Mike never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation and become friends with anyone. A talent that served him well throughout his life both personally and professionally. He combined his passions for people and food with a career in food service sales that included Vice President of Sales for Michael Foods, District Sales Manager for Sysco, and Category Manager for US Foods. Mike also achieved the status of Presidental in E’ola International and Platinum in Tavala.

When he was not working or spending time with his family, Mike was actively serving in a variety of church positions including Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader and his favorites, Sunday School and Primary teacher. If there was a church activity that needed food prepared, Mike would be the first one in the kitchen donating his time and talents to many ward and stake dinners, banquets, weddings, and funerals.

His hobbies included woodworking, golf, and travel. Mike built Cindy a dining room table as a wedding gift, a table that 43 years later is still at the center of large family and friend gatherings. He hit a hole in one at Swan’s Lake Golf Course in Layton, UT; an exciting accomplishment that when he asked Cindy if she saw that, she stated, ‘What, do you do that often?’ He traveled the world by plane, automobile, and cruise ship and loved seeing new places like Japan and visiting family and friends all over the country.
