Norma Musser

d. December 26, 2011

Norma Joyce Goodman Musser, "Joyce", of St. George, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2011 after accomplishing her mission on this earth. She was loved by many as a kind and generous daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was born in Murtaugh, Idaho on October 24, 1927 to Annie Moyes and William Nathaniel Goodman, the youngest of 10 children. Joyce graduated from Murtaugh High School in 1945 and from Albion State Normal School in 1946.

She taught school in Nyssa, Oregon, Twin Falls, Idaho and Las Vegas, Nevada. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Idaho State in 1953, and a Master's of Music Education from Brigham Young University in 1959.

Joyce was a dedicated teacher and cared deeply for each of her students. She was also a talented musician and choral director and led many award winning children's choirs. Joyce was active in the Las Vegas community and was involved in establishing the Musical Arts Workshop and a branch of the University of Nevada, later to be known as UNLV.

Joyce married Charles Musser in 1963 and they later divorced. They have two children, Daniel Musser (Stephanie), of Peoria, Arizona and Sharla Winn (Garth) of Cedar City, Utah. Joyce has five grandchildren, Peri and Courtnie Musser of Arizona and Nathaniel Ames, Jared Winn and Sarah Winn of Utah.

After retiring from teaching, Joyce developed her talent as an artist, creating many beautiful oil paintings and soft sculpture dolls.

Throughout her life Joyce was an avid genealogist involved in Family History research and indexing for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She always displayed great love for her ancestors and living family members and was a continual source of help and encouragement to all. Joyce's greatest talent was being an incredible mother and grandmother to her own children and grandchildren and to special relatives and friends she loved as her own.

Joyce is now reunited with her parents, brothers and sisters, daughter Kimberly Ann, and other cherished relatives and friends. Her family and friends will greatly miss her happy smile, positive attitude in spite of debilitating pain, loving encouragement, kindness and generosity.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Morningside Chapel, 930 Morningside Dr., St. George. A viewing will be held at 11:30am prior to services. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery.
