On March 2, 2015, Randolyn Jeanne Sheley Thompson peacefully passed away in her home in Hurricane and graduated to the next moments of time. It was raining as the heavens wept for their joy and our sorrow.
Randy was born September 22, 1931, in her Grandmother’s home in Safford, Arizona. Growing up she lived in Phoenix, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, Tulare, CA and Logan, UT. She attended college at the College of the Sequoias in California, attaining an AA in Art. She was active in swimming and was a Red Cross Life Guard. She then went on to teach school in Pixley, California. Later she attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. While in Logan she met the love of her life, Glen Robert Thompson Jr. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 15, 1954. Randy experienced the joys and the burdens of motherhood. She had one son and four daughters.
During their married life they resided in Ogden, Taylorsville, Alpine, American Fork, Vernal, Cedar Hills and Hurricane, Utah. No matter where she lived her home was always warm and welcoming. Randy made every holiday special by decorating her home and doing special things for her children and grandchildren. She was gifted in needlework, sewing, crafting, cooking, candy making, and had numerous other talents. Randy was a reserved and quiet person. She remembered and practiced time proven principles taught by her parents. She never shirked a duty. She had unwavering faith and was of splendid character.
Upon retirement Randy and Bob spent fifteen years traveling and doing volunteer work for Oregon State and the U.S. Forest Service. Together they operated an Antique business, traveling around the United States buying and selling, and participating in antique shows. They served an LDS Mission from 1991-1992 at the LDS Employment Center in American Fork, Utah.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Jill Ann Thompson Barratt and Julie Marie Thompson Panfiloff Empie, her parents, John (Jack) D. Sheley and Zella Layton and her brother Fredrick Layton Sheley.
Randolyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Glen Robert Thompson, Jr. A son, Mitchell (Kris) of Kemmerer, WY; two daughters, Jeanne (Todd) Nicholes of South Jordan, UT and Melissa May (Clark) Maxfield of Gallatin, TN; 25 Grandchildren and 40 Great Grandchildren. Thru her life in service to the Lord some 65 spirits have entered the mortality of life.
We are all travelers in this life. From life to death we travel between the eternities. Though the grave holds her mortal body, we claim and hold in our hearts the love, the moments and memories, the experience and knowledge she brought to us.
A Viewing will be on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 11:30-12:30 at Anderson and Sons Mortuary at 49 E. 100 N., American Fork, UT. A Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the American Fork City Cemetery.
