Richard Leon Babb

Our beloved dad “Old Grampa” and great-grandpa passed away December 7, 2020.  He was born on August 29, 1936 to Reginald Arthur and Gladys Irene Godwin Babb.  He married Patricia Thomas on September 10, 1955.  They had three children together.

Dick spent his career at Industrial Supply Company in Salt Lake City for 37 years.  He started in the Accounting Department and soon moved up to sales.  Dick went on to be the best salesman in the company.  He spent some time as the Sales Manager and retired as Executive Vice President.

Dick was a people person and it was once written in a national trade magazine that he was “The best entertainer since Al Jolson”.  He had a great sense of humor and had many entertaining stories.  Probably the best part of his story-telling is that he would laugh so hard that you could hardly understand what he was saying and he’d have to repeat it.

Dick was a generous person.  If he felt that you treated him right it was pretty common for him to leave you with a gift of some kind.  He also volunteered for the M.S. Society for several years, many of those years spent serving as the Chairman of the Board, as well.

He belonged to the Shrine Temple of Phoenix, AZ and was a 32nd Degree Mason in both Phoenix and St. George, Utah.

Dick is survived by his “bride” of 65 years, his son Russel (J’Amy), his daughter Leslie (Douglas) Burkett, and his brother Garry of San Diego, Ca.  He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; he adored every one of them.  Preceded in death by his daughter Pamela, his parents, and his brothers Raymond, Gene, and Stanley.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Charles Tate and his staff and Dr. Carrie Willis and her staff for their excellent care during the past six years.  Also, thanks to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at Dixie Regional Medical Center.  Their continued care and compassion meant so much  to his family.
