On January 30, 2025, Richard Dennis Weiss returned home to our Father in Heaven. Richard will be remembered for the love of the Gospel, contagious laugh and smile, and how he paid attention to detail for each individual. He will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on August 7, 1946, in St Louis Missouri, Richard entered the world as the beloved son of Russell and Helen Weiss. Richard grew up amidst a lively household, shared by his five siblings: Raymond, Ruth, Louise, Michael, and Jackie. Despite the typical sibling rivalries and misadventures, these bonds saw them through many of life’s ups and downs.
At a youthful age, he crossed paths with Georgia Louise Pence. Richard waited patiently until Georgia reached the age of 18 before he sought her father’s blessing to propose. With his approval, Richard and Georgia embarked on a marital journey, with dreams, challenges, and joys. Married on April 23, 1966 and later sealed in the Oakland, California Temple for time and eternity on June 10, 1978.
Richard and Georgia's union was blessed with five children: Kevin, Scott, Lisa, Bryan, and Tracey. He instilled in them the significance of hard work. He gifted them with opportunities that would enable them to develop into resilient individuals. As Richard’s family grew, he delighted in the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each new addition was a cherished blessing.
Richard had an array of interests. He was particularly fond of fishing, where he found peace and a sense of connection with nature. His love for sports, with NASCAR, baseball, football, and basketball being particular favorites. Not one to be confined to a single passion, Richard also found joy in the simplicity of long drives. These journeys, often spontaneous, allowed him to soak in the beauty of the world around him and remember Heavenly Fathers hand in all things.
In his professional life, Richard followed a path of passion for food and service. Which led him to open several restaurants. Each establishment is a testament to his dedication and hard work. His venture into the world of hospitality was not just a career but a love of bringing people together through good food and welcoming spaces. In addition to his work in the culinary field, Richard also contributed many years of service to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), furthering his commitment to community service and development.
Richard's life lessons were many, but if one were to encapsulate his wisdom, it would be in the importance he placed on work ethics and generosity. Richard had to work very hard in all his careers to endure new challenges every step of the way. Richard and Georgia were led to the gospel which helped them find blessings and peace through all their trials. Richard battled with several cancers and a long recovery of major back surgeries. This only brought him closer to the Spirit and knowing that Heavenly Father was by his side through every trial. He served the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with faith, love and hope.
His life will be celebrated with a viewing and funeral service on February 13, 2025, at the Green Valley 1st ward LDS Chapel, 511 S Valley View Dr., St. George, UT 84770.
