Rochelle Whitney

Rochelle Agren Whitney, 80, passed away June 7, 2017 in St George, UT.

She was born Oct 1, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Carl Glen Agren and Ila Hayes Agren.

She grew up in Lewisville, ID on a potato farm and attended High School in Rigby, ID.

Rochelle attended Utah State University graduating with a BS in Home Economics Education. During college she worked two summers at Yellowstone National Park.

She married Elvin (Ike) Dale Whitney on June 18, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to Vallejo, CA for both to teach school. Then moved to Ithaca, NY so her husband could attend Cornell University. After her husband received his PhD, they moved to Salinas, CA and lived there for a number of years.

In 1990, they moved to St George, UT and then immediately left for an 18 month LDS mission to Chile. Her husband passed away in 1996. She was a member of the Utah Heritage Choir and was able to perform many concerts abroad. She was able to fulfill a dream of going on an African safari along with many other exciting trips.

Her true calling was being a mother and she was a mother to more than just her children. She was a great cook and seamstress. And, enjoyed doing any type of handwork. Her home was decorated with the items she would make and the many souvenirs from her many trips.

She is survived by three children; Christy (Paul “West”) Martin of St George, Charles Elmer (Barbara) Whitney Avon, Connecticut and Annette Whitney Chadwick, 13 grandchildren & four step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Rochelle’s family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Beehive Home on River Road.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:30 at the St. George City Cemetery, 700 E. 100 S.
