Roger Nieberger

July 3, 1947 — December 23, 2018

Washington, Utah

GySgt Roger Lee Nieberger of Washington, Utah born July 3, 1947, in Greeley, CO and died December 23, 2018, in Ivins, Utah.  Roger was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by both his parents, John Frank, and Ruth Elaine (Bohlender) Nieberger.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Kay (Young) Nieberger, his sisters Johnna (Rawlings) and Melonee (Sarchet) and their four sons. He is also survived by his son R. Troy (wife Lynnette), daughter Danielle (husband Jonathan Cannon), son Edmund, and son Mitchell (wife Kimberly Warner). His 9 grandchildren Bryce, Chad (wife Haileigh), Ty (wife Miranda), Jenne-Lee, Logan, Mikayli, Kaleb, the two grandchildren he adopted as children CeCeila and Jaramiah, and one step-granddaughter Stella Warner.

Roger may have been a little rough around the edges; but he was a strong believer in tough love, hard work, and service.

Service to God, as he held many callings in the church and performed each to the highest standard with the greatest reverence.

Service to our country, as he spent his young adult life in the United States Marine Corp enlisting at age 18, fighting in the Vietnam War, and continuing to serve for 20 years retiring with honor in 1986. He then went on to serve at the Veterans Administration and the United States Post Office.

Finally, service to his fellow man, prompted to act on behalf of his coworkers as a Mailhandlers Union Shop Steward, taking every opportunity to fight for their rights in the workplace.  Roger retired from the USPS in 2008.

Roger was always willing to listen and to offer advice to the next generation. He was an avid outdoorsman teaching his children and grandchildren to shoot, hunt, and fish. Roger leaves a legacy of children and grandchildren that have a love for adventure, understand the meaning of hard work, have a work ethic, and above all know the value of loving and serving in life.  He will be greatly missed by those left behind.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Southern Utah Veterans Home at 160 North 200 East in Ivins, Utah.  For additional details contact the family.
