Ron, 81, was born September 26, 1935 in Fillmore, CA to Harold and Theresa Finnerty. He passed away his home on May 20, 2017. Most of his young life was spent growing up in Nebraska. That is where he went to school, graduated and met the girl he would later marry. After graduation he spent some time working in his uncle's sign shop as a sheet metal man.
January 14, 1955 he enlisted in the Navy and served proudly in Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron Eleven until 13 January 1959. During his service he had one tour of duty aboard the carrier, SS Ranger. After marrying Roxanna Friend, they lived in North Island, San Diego. Upon his discharge in 1959, he worked again in the sheet metal industry. As the family grew, they made the decision to start their own business, Variety Lighting Supply, in Ventura, CA.
The family grew up and moved on and it was time to retire and enjoy life. After searching many areas, St. George, UT became that place in late 1999. Ron threw himself into activities, charitable works and ways to help others. He was always proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus and now that he had more time to give, he became very active with them. The one accomplishment that held an extra special place in his heart was when he established the St. George Soup Kitchen to feed the hungry. There were many opportunities to do good works during his years as a member of the Knights and that was very fulfilling to him. In 2005 Ron was honored to receive the Utah Governor's Points of Light Award from Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. This award recognizes outstanding volunteers who help make Utah a better state.
Ron is survived by his wife of 60 years, Roxanna, children, Linda Finnerty, Tom and Robin Finnerty, Jeff Finnerty and Greg Finnerty. His grandchildren, Kassandra, Christopher, Courtney, Shawna, Cory, Camille and Mallory brought many years of joy to him. He is also survived by his two sisters, Rosalie Mangan and Pat Culver.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the St. George Catholic Church at 9:30 am with services at 10:00 am.
