Rosaland Thornton

May 31, 1925 — August 26, 2016

Rosaland Bergeson Thornton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday August 26, 2016, surrounded by family at her home.  Rosaland was born May 31, 1925 in Smithfield, Utah to Abraham & Asia Bergeson and was the 2nd of 5 children.   Raised in Logan, Utah, she attended Utah State, where she graduated with a degree in Dietetics.

Married for 64 years to Troy William Thornton, he proceeded her in death by two months.

She is survived by her 3 children, Randall Thornton (Gwen), Sandra Mortensen (Kevin), and Kandis Mamanakis (Gary) as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Rosaland lived a life full of church service in numerous callings.  Along with her husband Troy, she served an LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois from 1992 to1993.

Rosaland’s professional career included positions as a dietitian with LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Additionally, after retiring as a dietitian, Rosaland worked for many years as a substitute teacher in the Davis County School District.

Rosaland is well known for her many years of service to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers as well as her incredible commitment to family history and genealogy work.  Most importantly she worked tirelessly for her family and friends.

Services will be held as follows:

St. George Viewing – Wednesday August 31, 2016 at the St. George 6th Ward building, located at 85 S. 400 E., St. George from 6:00 -7:30 PM.

Bountiful Viewing & Funeral – Friday September 2, 2016 at Bountiful 24th Ward, 720 E. 500 N., Bountiful, Utah from 10 - 10:45 am, with funeral to follow immediately afterwards at 11 am.  Interment in Logan Cemetery to follow.
