Samuel Day Terry

December 8, 1947 — August 14, 2023

Washington, Utah

Samuel Day Terry, age 75, from Washington, Utah passed peacefully on August 14, 2023, at home with his beloved wife Judy (Stallings) Terry and his kids were at his side.

He was born on a snowy day, on December 8, 1947 in Murray, Utah to Harvey and Maxine Terry. He was the oldest of four siblings, Sherie, Karen, and Allen.

Sam was a hard-working, loving husband, father and grandpa! He grew up on a farm in Rupert, Idaho where he milked 50 cows before and after school. He loved working on the farm and doing all the chores.

When he was a sophomore at Minico High School and being the class president, it was hard to move to Southern California that spring. He loved playing football and tennis in high school. He graduated from Fontana High School in 1966.

He served a mission in the British South Mission from 1967-1969. He had some great experiences serving as a missionary and especially serving as an assistant to the Mission President.

Sam and Judy were married in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1971. They met at their friend's wedding reception back in Rupert, Idaho where they both grew up. He was best man and Judy was a bridesmaid. It was “love at first sight”. They have been married for 52 years. They have 7 beautiful children: Stephanie (Paul) Mendenhall, St. George, Utah; Michelle (Warren) Church, St. George, Utah; Dave (Gretchen) Terry, Santa Clara, Utah: Ryan (Jessica) Terry, Mountain Green, Utah: Steve (Tiffany) Terry, Washington, Utah: Marsha (Russ) Gifford, Washington, Utah; Jenny (Brett) Gifford, Washington, Utah; 30 grandchildren, and 2 great-granddaughters this fall.

Sam loved his kids so much. He would do anything for them. When they were in high school, he would go the extra mile and sometimes wash their car or fill it up with gas.

Sam was the maintenance manager at Skywest over both buildings. He would put the kids to work to earn extra money. He loved all his grandkids and enjoyed watching them in their different sports. He also liked to tease them; loved being a grandpa.

Sam and Judy were able to serve a mission together in Newfoundland, Canada in 2007 where Sam served as Branch President. It was a great experience out serving the Lord.

Now, we love hearing from our missionary grandkids who have served and some are now serving all over the world from Tahiti, Montana, North Carolina, Seattle, England, New Zealand, Ecuador and the Marshall Islands. “No greater joy than seeing your children walk in truth”.

Sam loved the gospel! He had a great testimony of our loving Savior, Jesus Christ. He had many church callings, he always loved teaching the Gospel Doctrine, served as Executive Secretaries, High Councilman, Stake Sunday School Presidency, Missionary Leader and Branch President. He was a shining example to everyone!

The loss of a sweetheart, our dad and grandpa is heart breaking. He will be greatly missed, by his family and friends. He was the life of the party.

May God be with you till we meet again!
