Sara Ornstead

February 28, 1940 — December 5, 2016

Sara Ann (Kimball) Ornstead, 76, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016, at her eldest son’s home in South Dakota. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in Southern California. She married Daniel B. Dean in 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. She worked and lived in Southern California while raising their two sons.  Sara moved to St. George, Utah in 1985, shortly after her husband Dan passed away. She spent her first years in St. George working at SkyWest airlines and taking care of her elderly parents. She met Bruce Ornstead after her mother passed away 1989.  They married and enjoyed dancing, singing and bowling together until his passing in November 2014. After Bruce passed, she was a caregiver to her youngest son, Mark, until his passing in June of 2016.

Sara was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was born into a very strong LDS family and raised by faithful parents. She attended high school in Southern California and one year of collage at BYU, Provo, Utah. She comes from great LDS ancestors and enjoyed genealogy and working in the St. George temple. Sara loved music, especially playing the piano, singing (she had a great voice) and leading the music in her home ward.  Sara also loved to dance – people would say that she looked like Ginger Rogers.  She was an experienced traveller and had the opportunity to travel the world.  In addition to her many other activities, she was a great bowler and was active in a bowling league in St. George. Sara was full of life.  She was very witty and could make anyone laugh.

Sara is survived by her son Jeffrey S. Dean, MD and his wife Nancy, Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, 7 grandchildren: Christopher (Esthefany), Adam (Tabatha), Kirsten (McKay), Alisha, Madison, Connor, Hunter and 9 great-grandchildren, an older sister Janet Olsen, Rigby, Idaho and an older brother Dr. Stanley C Kimball, Laguna Beach, California.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00am at the East Ridge Ward (Foremaster Ridge Building) 912 S. 1740 E (Foremaster) St. George, Utah. A viewing will begin at 9:30am at the same location.  Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
