Shirley Mae Rose passed away on July 1, 2014 at the age of 83 after a long illness. Shirley was born on December 1, 1930 in Wendell Idaho. Parents were Roy R. and Wanda Rose. Shirley was around her father's big game packing outfit in the Selway Country of Idaho. Shirley killed her first deer at age 8, her first elk at age 12, and her first bear and cougar at age 14. Shirley was guiding hunters at the very early age of 12. In the summer months she and her father guided fishing parties and packed out fisherman to the high mountain lakes throughout the Stanley Idaho primitive areas and headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho. When Shirley was not working in the guiding business she worked on the family ranch near Rupert Idaho where they ran cattle and raised horses.

During her life she worked as a cowboy, outfitter and guide, a gold miner, a nurse and a nationally accredited drug and alcohol abuse counselor, Shirley joined Alcoholics anonymous, (AA) on November 26, 1962. Shirley devoted much of her life to helping others with their substance abuse problems. In 2012 Shirley was awarded her 50-year AA pin and recognized for a lifetime of achievement within the AA organizations nationally. Shirley was an accomplished writer. She wrote 11-novels and many short stories over her career.

Proceeding Shirley in death was her second oldest son Tony Harrell.

She is survived by her children Bill Rector, Rex Harrell and Kristy Thatcher Grandchildren: Michele, Randy, Tammy, Shiloh, Mathew, Brandon, Billy and Stacie Great Grandchildren: Alex R, Cody, Hayden, Kyler, Alex W, Jessa, Samantha, Alexis A., Wyatt, Ricky and Natalie Great, Great Grandchildren: Curt, and upcoming – Taylor Mae

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
