Stanley Harmon Hafen, 1931-2016
Stanley was born in St. George, Utah on July 19, 1931 to Leland Hafen and Elsie Barbara Frei. He passed away on November 6, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Petersen Hafen; daughter Susan; sons Kevin (Marie), Keith (Jean); brother Richard (Marti) Hafen; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Keith and Clark; sister Maxine Spencer; daughter Nancy; and granddaughter, Jessica.
Stan graduated from Dixie High School, Dixie College, BYU, and received an M.Ed. from Northern Arizona University. He attended schools from kindergarten through junior college all within two blocks of his home. He was drafted for the Korean War, finished his education, and then taught elementary school in Las Vegas, NV for 31 years. Upon retirement, he and Carol Jean moved back “home” to St. George, where they have lived for 30 years. They celebrated their 65th anniversary this past May.
Sports were Stan’s passion; he played basketball and baseball in school and church tournaments and always regretted not giving football a chance. He didn’t miss any BYU games, rooting for his alma mater.
He was always active in the LDS Church and spent many years working in the St. George temple baptistry. For the last four years, unable to attend church, the St. George fourth ward priests brought the sacrament to his home, for which he was grateful.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Bloomington Hills Fourth Ward located at 750 East Fort Pierce Dr. North, St. George, Utah. A viewing will be from 9:30-10:45am prior to services. Interment will be on Saturday at the St. George City Cemetery.
