Sue flashed her last smile and passed on December 15, 2018. Born in Tartu, Estonia on December 6, 1922, she spent her early years with her parents, Walter Siegfried Loewe and Ida Loewe and her two brothers, Luca and Hermann, in Germany. At the age of 12 she and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in New Rochelle, New York.
Sue graduated from New Rochelle High School and went to college at the University of Cincinnati where she received a BS degree in nursing. Soon after graduating she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to work for her father at the University of Utah’s Pharmacology department where she assisted him with his research.
It was in Salt Lake City that Sue met the love of her life, Harry Puttuck, and they married in 1948. She and Harry had three daughters; Monica, Leslie and Kim. Throughout their more than 50 years of marriage Harry’s profession in mining took them across the country. They and the girls resided in Utah, Arizona, New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado, Illinois and finally back to their beloved Utah in retirement. Sue was always excited to move, and eager to create a warm home, wherever Harry’s career took them.
A worldly woman, known for her wit, intelligence and smile, Sue loved people and the people who knew her loved her. She was athletic, with a life long interest in tennis and golf that she shared with her daughters. Sue was also a strong supporter of the community. She routinely volunteered for Head Start and taught adult German classes.
She is survived by two daughters, Leslie Penello and Kim Cohee; two grandchildren, Ken Joyce and Lesley Wilhelm and three great grandchildren.
A private family service was held.
