Terry Welch Brown

October 13, 1936 — October 9, 2024

St. George, Utah

An Angel in the shape of our mother, Terry Welch Brown, left this earthly life on October 9, 2024. The past five months she was surrounded by family and many friends as she battled with cancer. Terry was the youngest child born to Charles Frederick Welch and Cora Brew Godfrey on October 13, 1936. Terry’s mother died when she was a baby, her father remarried and she was raised by her father and her second mother Louise Lewis Welch. She grew up on a farm in Cowley Wyoming with her five siblings, Gae Welch Asay, Carol Welch Baston, Robert Godfrey Welch, James Lewis McDermott, Emily Welch Tebbs Reiman. She rode horses, helped in the fields, went on cattle drives, cheered at High School games, was Queen at the Winter Formal, knew everyone in High School, and was related to at least half the town of Cowley. Her best friends were her siblings and her cousins. After graduating from Cowley High School, she attended Central Business College in Denver, Colorado. She was working in Billings, Montana when she met her sweetheart Jerrold Steele Brown. He was a breath of fresh air, he was so much fun to be with. They were married on April 20, 1956.

In their early years of marriage they lived in Mud Lake Idaho, Henry’s Lake Idaho and Cowley, Wyoming, before taking a job that relocated them to Sunnyvale, California. This was a temporary job that lasted 35 years. Their family grew and grew and grew. They raised eight children, Garry Welch Brown, Kerry Brown Edmonds, Julie Brown Phillips, Debbie Brown Legge, Charles Welch Brown, Heather Brown, and two of their granddaughters Angela Yauman Brown Reed, Chantel Yauman Brown Petersen.

Jerry and Terry loved California but when it was time to retire they moved to St. George, Utah in June 1993. Here they continued raising their three youngest daughters.

They loved living in St. George and finally living closer to family, especially her brother Jim and Clara McDermott who they share a special bond with. They met friends for life wherever they went, always welcoming new and old friends into their home.

One of the things Terry enjoyed most in her life was being a mother and a grandmother. She had eight children, twenty eight grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and recently met her first great great grandchild. She loved each of her children’s spouses and had a special relationship with each of them.

Terry lived a life of service. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints she served in many church callings. Terry took service to a whole new level as she dedicated her life to serving others. She was always caring for her family and those around her, and others who were bedridden, aging, ailing, homeless, down on their luck or struggling in some way.

Terry loved everyone and everyone loved Terry. Terry was a loving spouse and mother. She was elegant and classy and still a cowgirl. She was an example of kindness and love. Never spoke badly of anyone, She lived by the mantra “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.”

She loved being from Wyoming. She loved her family. She loved God. Terry is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and two children.
