Thelma Olds Scholzen, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2012. She was born December 16, 1924 in Toquerville, Utah to Arthur and Lottie Olds. She grew up in "Toker" with 7 brothers and sisters in a one-bedroom house. She continued to enjoy a close relationship with all of her siblings throughout her life.
She attended Hurricane High School where she met her future husband, Jack Scholzen. They were married on June 26, 1943. (Honestly mom, on statement day?). They began a life that was filled with love, adventure, and a lot of hard work. Jack and Thelma were sealed along with their children in the St. George Temple on April 25, 1987.
Thelma began working with Jack at the family business, Scholzen Products Company, Inc. She learned many aspects of the business, among them, making deliveries and driving truck.
Thelma had wide and varied interests including hunting for arrowheads, metal detecting, going to yard sales, penny and nickel slots, jeep patrol, and weekends at the cabin. She was truly at home out in the hills. She was very fortunate that her and Jack had many good friends who also enjoyed participating with them in their activities. Thelma was a member of the DUP, Buenos Amigas, Lady Lions, Knitting, and Pinochle clubs.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many capacities, including MIA and Primary.
She will be greatly missed by her family, Nick (Erroleen), Nancy Harris (Mike), David (Judi), Keith (Dannette), Linda Ballard (Bruce), Mary Lu Ashcroft (Kelly), 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Her brothers and sisters, Clark Olds, Lois Iverson, Wayne Olds, Lloyd Olds (Myrna), Clayton Olds (Sue), Valene Norton, and Patty Ann Henrie (Burdell). She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, and a grandson, Daniel Scholzen.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurricane West Stake Center, 272 s 700 W. Visitations will be Friday, January 13, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to services both at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery.
