It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother, and uncle, Timothy Woodruff Holt. He left this world on the morning of Thursday, February 13, 2025. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Tim was born on September 22, 1970, in Phoenix, Arizona. When he was 12 years old, Tim and his family moved to St. George, Utah, where he lived the rest of his life. He had a kind soul and a big heart. Even as an infant, his mother recalled him being the sweetest baby with the mildest temperament. Though he was the fourth child out of ten, born of Mary and Shirl Holt, his siblings, young and old, made it their mission to protect him. Kids in school tend to pick on the vulnerable, and sadly Tim was no exception. But even with his difficult childhood, he was never bitter. Tim had more strength and courage than anyone thought possible. He consistently beat the odds, never letting his disability or health problems stop him from living life to the fullest.
Tim loved people. He was incredibly social and truly valued his friends and family, especially his brothers. He looked up to them and cherished the time they spent together. He felt very close to his older brother Danny, and never fully healed from Dan’s passing in 2014. Tim was also known for his affinity for animals. He was rarely without a companion of some form, whether it be dog, bird, or fish. It gave him so much joy to have a constant friend and someone to care for.
Tim was a storyteller and was happiest when chatting with a loved one. He was incredibly passionate about his hobbies, and so appreciative of a listening ear when talking about the work he’d just completed on his tractor, lawn mower, electric bike, etc. He was a capable mechanic and could spend hours a day working on his engines. He was also known to the neighborhood of Bloomington Hills for driving his tractor all around town. He would take it to the gas station to stock up on snacks, or Walmart to run errands, putting a smile on the faces of onlookers. It’s a familiar and comforting sight we will all surely miss.
Tim was heavily involved in Special Needs and the Special Olympics, taking part in many of the events, including cycling, bocci, and snow shoeing. One year he got the opportunity to attend Nationals in Omaha Nebraska and took home gold medals for his achievements in Golf and Bowling. He had such pride in his community and of his accomplishments, and when he returned home, he gleefully showed off his earned medals and had many happy memories to share. Another point of pride for Tim was his work. He was a loyal and valued employee of Harmons Grocery and worked there as a bagger for over 18 years.
We will deeply miss him greeting us with excitement, displaying his newly purchased gadgets, his goofiness when giving wagon rides to his nieces and nephews on his tractor, and his childlike joy during the holidays and on his birthday. Christmas mornings especially will never be the same without him.
Tim loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life. His favorite calling was serving in the St. George Temple. While attending church meetings, he would always sit on the front row with a big smile on his face and loved singing hymns.
We take comfort knowing that he was greeted by his father and brothers in heaven, and that he can again hug his beloved dog, Daisy. Timothy is survived by his mother, Mary Langford Holt, his sisters, Melanie Burgess (Kason), Deborah Johnson, Monica Cafferty (Bryant), Andrea Schijf (Martin), and Natalie Murray (Samuel), and his brothers, Gregory Holt (Lindsey) and Brandon Holt, as well as his treasured cockatiel, Sunny.
Preceded in death by his father, Shirl Holt, his brothers, Daniel Holt and Stephen Holt, and his nephew, Bailey Burgess.
