Troy Thornton

September 16, 1924 — June 24, 2016

Troy William Thornton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday June 24, 2016 surrounded by family at his home.  Troy was born September 16, 1924 in Parowan, Utah to Merrill & Twilla Thornton and was the 3rd of 6 children.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosaland Bergeson Thornton, his sister Annette Mitchell, his 3 children, Randall Thornton (Gwen), Sandra Mortensen (Kevin), and Kandis Mamanakis (Gary) as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Troy served a mission to the Northwestern States Mission from 1946-1947 as well as in many church callings over his lifetime including bishop of the Las Vegas 27th Ward from 1968 to 1974.   Along with his wife Rosaland, he served another LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois from 1992 to1993.   Additionally, he served for many years as a temple worker at the Bountiful and St. George temples.

Troy’s career in the banking industry included positions as a trust officer at Walker Bank in Salt Lake City, First National Bank in Portland, Oregon, Bank of Nevada in Las Vegas and retiring with Zions National Bank in Salt Lake City.

Troy is well known for his many years of service to his church and community including: Sons of the Utah Pioneers, the Rotary Club, The Chamber of Commerce, The Jr. Miss Program, The Miss Utah Pageant and most importantly his family.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday June 28, 2016 at the St. George 6th Ward building, located at 85 S. 400 E., St. George from 6:00 -7:30 PM.

Services will be held at the Bountiful 24th Ward, 720 E. 550 N., Bountiful, Utah on Thursday June 30th with a viewing from 9:00 -10:00 AM and funeral services starting at 10:30 AM.  Interment in Logan Cemetery to follow.
