Virginia Ruth Mersberg Harrison was born September 5, 1939 in Kaunakaka, Hawaii on the island of Molokai. She was born to Stanley Henry Mersberg and Eva Joao who have both preceded her in death. Virginia was fortunate to has a second set of parents who raised her, John and Irene Kalua who have also both preceded her in death.
“To some she was Virginia, Ginger, or simply Gramma. She opened her heart and arms to anyone who needed her in their lives. She dedicated her life to helping others and taking in anyone who needed a loving home. She was funny, smart, sassy, talented and had a great sense of humor.” (Ember Blackburn)
Virginia loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and baking. She loved taking her grandkids fishing and enjoyed the outdoors.
Virginia was a dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist church and spent most of her adult life on the Central Coast of California. There she built a successful cleaning business that supported her family for many years. Virginia also spent a number of years as a single foster parent where she met and loved many, many youth. Last August she moved her family to St. George, Utah to be closer to other family members. During this time she got back to her favorite things like quilting and being a gramma. Virginia passed away at home on September 19, 2018.
Virginia leaves behind her brothers John Kalua, Winston Kalua, Bob Kalua, Wilbur Kowitz and Eugene Kowitz. She leaves behind her sisters Jeanette Kilstrom and Veronica Palmer. Virginia is preceded in death by her sister Annette Brooks.
Virginia was blessed with eight children. Michael was her first son whom she has been reunited with in heaven.
She is survived by her daughter, Fayrene Vega, and her sons Sid (Kathy) Walker, Stephen Walker, Jeff (Malia) Mullins, Jon Mullin, Kelly Mullin and David Mullin. Grandchildren, Jina (Miguel) Vega, Ember Blackburn, Jazmin Vega, Noah (Nicole) Walker, Levi Walker, Christian Walker, Elijah Walker, Anthony Walker, Sean Walker, Michael Walker, Jasmine Walker, Jeffery Mullins, Jonathon (Jasmine) Mullins, Jordan (Jamie) Mullins, Michael Mullins, Jamelle Mullins and Jenna Mullins.
Great Grandchildren, Mia Fontana, Leo Paredez, Jaxson Shook, Corvin Walker, Kaniela Mullins, Amara Mullins, Azden Mullins, Mikah Mullins, Graham Mullins and Ruby Mullins.
A memorial Service will be help on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Falls Event Center in 170 South Mall Drive, St. George, UT 84790. It will begin at 10:00 am.
