Our beloved Wilbert Skinner, 90, died July 19, 2016 in St. George, Utah. He was born June 16, 1926 in Bedford Wyoming to Joseph Alma and Anna Fluckiger Skinner. He was the eighth of eleven children. He married Relia Marie Roos September 5, 1944. They are the parents of eleven children.
Wilbert grew up on a farm/ranch and did the work of a typical farm boy in the 1930's & 40's. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and liked to draw. He started singing at a young age and sang for many occasions throughout his life.
Wilbert graduated from Star Valley High School in 1944. He joined the Navy and served his country in World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning from the war he and his family settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho for a time, and also lived in Sandpoint Idaho, Flagstaff, Arizona, Ontario, Oregon, and St. George, Utah.
Wilbert was a faithful member of the LDS Church, received many callings, including that as a Bishop. He and his wife served a mission to the Sacramento, CA Mission.
Wilbert worked in many jobs including business manager/book keeper, retail business owner, and building contractor.
He could fix just about anything. He was an avid learner and as a result, he developed many talents and abilities. He was a dedicated father and man of strong faith in God. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, honesty and love of God. He enjoyed traveling with his family and appreciated the beauties of nature and cultures in places he lived and traveled to.
His children are Jerry Skinner, David Skinner, Pamela Olsen, Dan Skinner, Judy Edgar, Nelson Skinner, Joseph Skinner, Winifred Roberts, Jonathan Skinner (deceased), Raymond Skinner, and Leesa Bridges. He is survived by his wife Relia and brothers Blaine Skinner and Jay Skinner. He has 47 Grandchildren and 94 Great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 23rd at 1:00 at the Cotton Manor Chapel, 2583 E 350 N, St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held at 12:00 preceding the funeral. Interment will be at the Washington City Cemetery under the direction of McMillan Mortuary. Condolences may be shared at mcmillanmortuary.com
